Test Prep & College Admissions

Should I even take the SAT?

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many colleges have adopted a "test optional" policy for the SAT and ACT. Many students worry that this means their SAT/ACT scores don’t mean as much. Actually, the opposite is true! Because many schools no longer require SAT/ ACT submission, there are fewer scores are in circulation, which means that a strong result can make the pivotal difference in gaining admission and securing scholarships. Most counselors recommend still taking the SAT & ACT, as it will give you greater flexibility and options when choosing your college list. In your senior year, when you’re officially submitting applications, you can decide whether to submit your final scores to every school. One thing is for certain: a great SAT/ACT score will always go a long way!
